Family health log: the simple way to keep everyone's health in one place
A family health log is the one place where everyone's medical bits and bobs live: illnesses, medication, doses, vaccinations, GP visits, allergies. Keeping it up to date takes a few minutes a week and pays off every time the GP asks "and when was the last one?".
Why keep one (and why digital)
A paper notebook is romantic but useless at 3am. A digital family health log lets you search by name, sort by date, share with your partner, and not lose everything the next time you change phone. Charting fever or dose history over time also gives you a picture your memory simply can't keep.
What to record for each person
- Basics: name, date of birth, current weight, known allergies
- Illness episodes: start date, symptoms, length, medication given
- Regular medication or ongoing treatments
- Immunisations (date and batch number if you have it)
- Important GP or hospital visits and letters
How to actually keep it going
The golden rule: only log when something happens. You don't need to write "all well today". Open the log when a cold, a fever, or a new course of antibiotics starts, and close it when it passes. The rest of the time the app should leave you alone.
Important note. Fever Tracker content is for general information only and is not a substitute for advice from your GP or paediatrician. If you're worried, symptoms persist, or it's an emergency, always contact your doctor, paediatrician or your local NHS services.
